Reservation of sunbeds

Indeed, the hotel should have a clear policy if it's an issue. It's like at theme parks with people reserving spaces in the queue, many years ago we were at a water park which had a clear definition of queue jumping displayed everywhere, including "reserving spaces for others". We'd been queuing for one ride about 30 mins, ahead of us in the queue was a bloke on his own, just as we were getting towards the front of the queue, his wife and kids push to the front to join him. I and some others complained, the ride attendant pointed at the sign and told them to get to the back of the queue, they argued, ride attendant threatened to call security and get them thrown out of the park, he said it's happened before, so they all slunk off the back of the queue to a round of applause from some of usPollycat said:I've never stayed anywhere where getting a sunbed has been a problem.
Maybe that's because we tend to stay in small self catering accommodation (usually with a pool) or boutique hotels.
And there are only 2 of us.
The idea of getting up at 7am (or even earlier) to bag a sunbed is awful to me.
Personally, I think hotels where reserving sunbeds and not using them is a problem, the hotel should sort it out.

I shall be doing the same as I did last year. On arrival in Malaga purchase a deck chair from Decathlon and position it anywhere I like. However this year I am going to bury it on the last day ready for next year.
The wife thinks she has no part of this folly, but she'll be holding the torch for me.3 -
If there's nothing other than towels on the beds, move the towels to a clean/dry area and take the sunbeds for yourselfProStuart said:Every year (prior to Covid of course), I find myself in a race to get sunbeds for my family of 5 - we typically have only reserved 4 and as the kids get older, we'll probably drop down to 3 at some point.
It really frustrates me (and most people I talk to) that some people put towels on sunbeds as early as 1am and then don't actually use them until past lunch time. I've tended to try for 7am - I then stay on one of the beds till the family starts to wake up and join me. Even at that time, I see people putting their towels down and then you don't see them till early afternoon.
I wanted to see what people think - do we continue as is and the race gets earlier and earlier or do we change and say that if it's just towels on the beds and nobody is there within 30 minutes, move the towels to a sensible spot and take the beds for yourself?I've voted remove the towels if people are reserving them but i find it all a bit sad really all this reserving sun beds malarky. If your on holiday abroad go out and enjoy yourself!, explore the local area, visit the beach... anything other that just sitting round the hotel pool all day.I don't think i've sat on a sunbed for more than 15 minutes at once while on holiday abroad.2 -
If anyone's got any better suggestions, please post!!!Use your holiday to enrich yourself and have a good time instead of lying in the sun. If you live life to the full it'll be hot enough after you're dead.3

Same here. Never use sunbeds. I'd be bored after 5 minutes. Get out to explore!sammynunes said:Use your holiday to enrich yourself and have a good time instead of lying in the sun. If you live life to the full it'll be hot enough after you're dead.3 -
If anyone's got any better suggestions, please post!!!TBH, when we were both working, we wanted nothing more than just to be able to completely switch off from "life" and just sit/lie/swim/eat/sleep/walk on the beach, whether in the (direct) sun or not.
We've done a mixture of HB, All Inc and self-catering over the years. Never done a "city" break outside the UK! We love being beside the sea, so it's coast/beach all the way!!
We did the occasional trip, or hired a car, but for the most part we were quite happy to read a book or listen to music for a week of "guaranteed" sunny weather.
No internet, no distractions....just needed to remember what day it was you had to check out on!!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -
My neighbour went to the Costa del Sol every year and spent 2 weeks lying by the pool. Never ventured out of the hotel.

Friend I've just holidayed with spent a lot of time in the apartment watching reading and watching Netflix while I went out and about. Their reasoning was it's not something they get the chance to do at home so the alone time from family was their holiday.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
At the end of the day, each to their own and if they were happy then that's fine but personally I'd be sending the family away and then enjoying the time at home with Netflix, reading and red wine.elsien said:Friend I've just holidayed with spent a lot of time in the apartment watching reading and watching Netflix while I went out and about. It helps if you are both on the same page as to what sort of holiday you want... before you agree to go! 😉elsien said:Friend I've just holidayed with spent a lot of time in the apartment watching reading and watching Netflix while I went out and about.
