Paying for car lease extension, excess mileage so far included.

My son is extending the lease on his car for 12 months when the current agreement ends next month.

I will be paying the costs to enable him to do this which I am told will be the excess mileage charge relating to the original agreement and administration charges to set up the new agreement.

I have asked him to forward the invoice so I can pay directly.

I intend to pay using a debit card or is another method of payment more advisable?

Yes, definitely a lease.

I was hoping any excess mileage he had now could carried forward and be accounted for at the end of the extension but he tells me not.

Yes, that was me.

My son tells me that the excess mileage charge too date has to be paid now so he can extend the lease for another year.

This is because it isn't actually an extension as such but rather a brand new contract.
