Car lease extension- excess milage

When seeking a formal extension to a car lease would a charge be made for any excess mileage at the end date of the original contract?

This may be treated differently between a lease and a PCP.

The only way to get a definitive answer would be to look at the detail of the lease agreement and the extension agreement.

How this is treated may depend on the extent to which the vehicle has exceeded set mileage.
So, 12k miles per year for 3 years is 36k miles.  Extend for another year / 12k miles  is 48k miles.  If the vehicle was at 37k at the end of 3 years, they may ignore that on the basis that the mileage might correct in the 4th year.
If the vehicle was at 50k miles after the three years, then just adding another year to get to 48k total would not work.

I would expect it to be applied pro rata, so for example if you extend for 6 months and your allowance is 8,000 miles a year then it would be reasonable to expect 28,000  to be the limit across the 42 months.
