End of EE Contract / Plusnet sim only?

My EE contract ends at the end of August so looking for Sim only. The EE sim only prices are looking a little ridiculous, although I've yet to go through the haggling and retention phase.

I'm currently on 4GB data and don't really need more. I can get Plusnet 30 day sim only for £6/month but am I correct in thinking that calls can be a problem even piggybacking on the EE network because of lack of 4G or wireless calling?

Thanks

I don't know of any issues with 4G on Plusnet? I don't believe they support Wifi calling or short codes.
Lebara do Wifi calling, but not short codes. They are on a different network.

It's this extract from a Simsherpa review which I have to confess I don't entirely understand or know enough about how it relates to real life use. Any education appreciated.

1pmobile is £6 for 4GB, they're on the EE network and support wifi calling and 4G. Also free EU roaming (ie no extra charge).
Note the £6 is just for data - calls and texts are on top but at only 1p/min and 1p/text it's unlikely to be much unless you make loads of calls.

That's interesting. Plusnet definitely have 4G data. I wasn't aware that it was possible to have 4G data and not 4G calls.

Don't you love biased reviews and statements...    "WiFi calling is essential"  Really???

Been with Plusnet for a little while now after they took over Life Mobile originally 3G and now 4G.    I have
no issues with my indoor signal strength or signal strength anywhere.  Customer service seems good, they upped the bill by
    37p after 5 years @£6.

Moved wifes phone from Voda to them on the £6 for 4GB deal and said can i move mine to that deal also. Surprised they not
only said no problem but as a good customer I can have 6GB of data for £6.  No complaints here.

Wi-fi calling might well be felt to be essential if you live or work in a place where there is poor mobile phone reception but you can access wi-fi - you'd be able to make and receive calls via the wi-fi "seamlessly"

e.g. you live in a virtual blackspot for all networks, and have to hang out of a window to get a good signal, or would prefer not to have to go outside to make/receive a mobile call.

Also pulling text such as "wifi calling is essential" without the rest of the context is even worse. Read it and it is saying it is essential where signal is poor, not that it is essential to have. This absolutely correct and you have tried to twist it.

I certainly wouldn't pick a provider who does not support both wifi calling and short codes which as I understand it Plusnet Mobile doesn't. Others may not see either as an issue, but better to know and make a decision based on features that may be of consideration.

Something will have to be done about no 4G calling though as EE will be shutting down their 3G network in 2023 and Three in 2024.

Not biased against Plusnet, use them for broadband.
