I decided as a first step I wanted both gas and electricity with the same supplier and I chose a Which? recommended supplier, Octopus. The standard Variable Tariff is pretty much the same everywhere so nobody is touting for business. It's a case of calling the company and they will let you switch in. Dealing with Octopus is in a different league compared to EDF and British Gas. I have been trying for years to have a gas smart meter installed, I already have an electric smart meter, but EDF failed to show up on a couple of occasions and when they did the installer couldn't get the meter. No problem with Octopus. The engineer arrived when they said and installed a working smart meter.

I get regular emails to explain what's going on with my account and there are tools to help me work out what my regular direct debit should be. A breath of fresh air for sure.

If you are looking for better (fixed) deals, than yes you are to late. Nobody offers anything at the moment and on SVT everybody has the same rates.

If you are looking at consolidating the gas and electricity you can go the route @gsmh suggested above.
