Advise on loud music from wine bar

Start keeping a record of when noise is disturbing you. After a few weeks report to Environmental Health.1

Obtain copy of the album "Led Zeppelin 2", position speakers so they face the floor over wine bar. Play Track 1, Side 1 "Whole Lotta Love" at Volume 11 ad nauseam (advise upstairs flat you will be doing this for an hour or two)If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales2

I'd also be keeping my fingers crossed that it won't last long in its current incarnation. If the unit has been a cafe and then a Chinese takeaway in the time you've been there it sounds like nothing does particularly well there. You could find in a few months it'll turn into something else (hopefully quieter). Having said that, I'd be thinking seriously of moving on if I were you. You're always going to be a hostage to fortune whilst you're in your current location.

I do keep a diary and I also recorded the sound on my phoneHampshireH said:

Unless the council deems it a Statutory Noise Nusiance nothing is likely to change.
You should report to Environmental Health and also ask your landlord to liaise with the freeholder.
Your landlord won't be able to anything except do the complaining.
If the noise is deemed acceptable it will be something you have to learn to live with (or move)
You will be expected to keep diaries of the nuisance for a period of time so if you haven't already, then start now0 -
A friend had a similar problem, flat above a shop, only occasional noise then a change of use and refurbishment. The refurbishment included installing ceiling speakers, the shop was parent funded but managed by their young adult children. The "managers" treated it as their first home so turned the music up to suit themselves. The friend resolved the problem by contacting the parents who instructed the children to behave like adults.Claims that your wine bar needs the music louder because the customers are talking loudly is laughable.Contact environmental health initially for advice and their perspective on it. As its commercial noise they should treat it differently to noise between residential properties and are likely to be willing to get involved."some days the music is acceptable other days is not"Thats likely to be individual employees suiting themselves. They need to be managed properly.

I quite agree. People need to talk loudly as the music is too loud.Norman_Castle said:Claims that your wine bar needs the music louder because the customers are talking loudly is laughable.
Maybe point out to them that they are likely to lose customers if people can't have conversation while drinking their overpriced wine. Lots of people would might enjoy this sort of place will easily find a reason to stop going.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Once the recession hits no one will a be able to afford drinks at a wine bar. It'll be the cheapest bottle of Tesco plonk at home for many.0

Different situation but when our neighbours got annoyingly noisey the OH turned the big speakers out the door and playing Wagner's Ring Cycle at volume. And was prepared to ensure they enjoyed all 16 hours of it.rubble2 said:Alternatively, get a copy of Led Zeppelin (1) and play 'Communication Breakdown' in the same mannerI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. You said it is stressing you out. It can't be stressing you out that much then. You are renting the property. Why put yourself through a battle to change the habits of a business, one which may not actually be causing a nuisance to anyone but yourself, if it's stressing you?borderline said:
