Split ticketing ?

I don't have either but I intend to buy a Railcard.
I have found a fare for £136 1st class
Outward journey via York and Edinburgh
Return journey Glasgow Central to Leeds and then Harrogate
So two changes
There were tickets at £124 but 3 changes. More complicated.
The rail card would take 30% off
Thanks Sue

As fares do rise it would be worth buying them now with a railcard discount. You don't need the railcard to buy tickets, it can be purchased just before you travel.1

Thank you for that. I didn't realise I could buy the ticket prior to buying the railcard. I am not 100% sure I want to go but my daughter has told me I should. Says I should stay in a hotel rather than with my Brother and his wife. They won't be too happy about that as they rent a 2 bed apartment in the city centre. I just don't do that well staying with anyone so have to make a decision. If I can save a bit on the rail fare it gives me more to spend on a hotel. I will just go for 3 nights0

I can get Trainsplit to produce a round trip fare from Harrogate to Glasgow, 1st class with Railcard discount for £89.35.1

Wow that is cheap. The rail card will cost me £30 but then I would save 1/3 but still very cheap.
Thanks0 -
Make sure you are eligible for the Railcard before purchasing the ticket though. And if you are buying for someone else make sure they are allowed on yours or are eligible for a railcard themselves and have it with them, also if it's split tickets your buying make sure your train stops at the stations on the split(you don't need to get off). If you get caught with invalid tickets you could be looking at a costly mistake.Susan1942 said:Wow that is cheap. The rail card will cost me £30 but then I would save 1/3 but still very cheap.

I am 80 so eligible for a Senior Railcard. I have never bought one but in this case I can save a little bit more by buying one.
I have to go to hospital in Leeds. I take the train as I can get a taxi which drops me off at the appropriate department.
I don't really want to do more than 2 stops unless it was really a marked difference in cost. As I have said I don't want to pay £360 for a 1st class fare. I had another look and yes that really is the price.
Thanks to everyone for all the great adviceSue0 -
If you have any Tesco vouchers you can use £10 worth of vouchers to buy a Senior Railcard.2

Thank you but I don't shop at Tesco..The only points or ? Vouchers I have are Nectar points. I have BA points and have used them to buy a flight recently to Ireland.0
