Split ticketing ?

I want to travel from Harrogate to Glasgow in September.
I am shocked at the cost of the fares.
Previously I have been able to find a 1 at class ticket for around £80-90 advance booking
It is showing me first class at £360 and £120 for standard class.
There is a split ticketing but wonder if this is a legitimate site
There I could get a 1st class ticket for around £120 and £60 for standard class.
I have searched for.York to Glasgow. A single ticket from Harrogate is £9.80.

There are numerous ticket split sites and some should be avoided.
I use Trainsplit which is generally regarded as one of the decent ones.3 -
Thank you for that info. I am wary of booking something that is maybe not legitimate.

Nothing to stop you looking at the split ticketing sites to get ideas of what might be available and then buy the tickets directly from the train company. Same as looking at comparison sites for energy deals or holidays but then going directly to the companies to buy from the providers.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. I am having a look but I seem to be all over the place. The best was £138 but I can't find that one again. I am flexible on when I can travel. I thought I would travel on a Tuesday and return on a Friday My brother is visiting from Australia and they are in Glasgow for 4 weeks arriving on the 31st August. I would want to avoid that week as they will be tired after the long journey This for a 1st class ticket. Bur if not using this the ticket is £360 and Standard £120 I think I need to do a bit research moving dates around and times/ A few of them on the return journey is Glasgow there is a change at Carlisle and then to Leeds and Harrogate. Outbound journey is via York to Edinburgh and then Glasgow This would be the normal way I would travel
Would I have several tickets for the journey > Sorry an awful lot of questions0 -
For my (return Uttoxeter) trip I have 6 different tickets, but just 1 change of journey each way. They are also flexible, so I won't be getting the trains that I'm booked on....
Ticket prices are subject to demand, so it might be that your original tickets are no longer available - particularly if you have made LOTS of requests and they're already 'earmarked' for you!#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660 -
Thanks for giving me an idea of how this is done.
I want to travel 1st class but not at £360
Will have another look. There are several web sites and because the names are similar not sure which ones I have been on. I need to write down when I find a fareI need to speak to my brother and his wife again..0 -
Do you have or can you get a railcard? £30 for a year or £10.00 of Tesco clubcard points but would save 1/3rd across each fare required. That £360 would become £240 etc and can also be used on split ticketing sites.0
