Porting number to Asda Mobile

Hi,

I'm going to switch to Asda PAYG Mobile and want to transfer my number to them. Can anyone who's done this give me an idea of how to do this please?

The FAQs says I can do this by creating an online account. So I've created my account but can't see an option to put in my PAC code. It's supposed to be under "My profile" but it's not there. At the moment, the only fields on "My profile" is "Email" and "Password". I haven't got my SIM yet - it's on the way. I'm just having a nosey before I receive it.

On the home page, it says to get started I need to link my Asda Mobile phone number to my online account. Is this the number that Asda will give me on my new SIM when it arrives or my current phone number I want to transfer to them? Once linked with whatever phone number, does the "My profile" page then get expanded with more details with one of the fields being a place to enter my PAC code?

Or is it easier just to call 2732? Presumably from my Asda SIM even though there's no credit on it?

Thanks

  • Your online Asda account needs to be linked to the number that comes with your new Asda sim (although, as you say, you can run your account by phone (number transferring, top-ups etc) without using an online account at all).

Once your sim is activated (by putting it in a phone) the 2732 number is free so no need to add credit. Hint, don't use your PAC code until you are sure that the Asda (Vodafone) service is working OK and the coverage is as you expected.

Thanks for clearing that up flaneurs_lobster. When my SIM arrives and I enter the Asda mobile number associated to it in my account, would you know if the "My profile" page then expands and shows a field to enter my PAC Code? At the moment there's only 2 fields - "Email" and "Password".

I've just read a post about having to top up every 180 days rather than make a chargeable call every 180 days so your hint is relevant!

When you have fully registered by entering the SIM card number the "My Profile" page expands to show a section called "Transferring your number", where you can submit your existing number and PAC. Did this myself about a month ago and it transferred perfectly.

Don't forget that transfers don't happen over weekends so avoid submitting on Friday.

Brilliant. Thanks virgo17. Also, that's good news that the transfer worked perfectly online and thanks for the reminder about weekends.

If you've not had experience of porting a number from one network to another I can reassure you that in my experience of having done it a few times in the last year or three, it is very efficient and as if you initiate the process in the afternoon of one day it might well be completed by 10am the next day if you're lucky.

Thanks for that. Yes, I've ported my number a few times now but I've always done it by calling the new provider and giving them my PAC. With Asda, I thought I'd try it online but couldn't see a place to enter the code.

I've since ported my number to RWG by filling out their online form and that went smoothly. I got a confirmation email from RWG 2 days after the port - I would've expected the confirmation on the day but nevermind. I knew it worked on the day as I received their text (it said from Now) whilst the RWG SIM card was in my spare phone.
