In debit EDF
I'm with EDF my monthly dd for combined fuel has been £128 monthly - in January my bill said I was £500 ish in credit
My next bill said i was £1500 in debit but it was normal to be in debit at this time of year so I assumed it was being spread across the year - it still says my DD remains at £128 and i dont need to do anything.
My last bill is as above
Today I called them and they say i now owe £1900 and they think my dd should be about £350 but cant tell me exactly and i still owe £1900 on top
I was told that many of the bills were estimates despite me giving readings and a man coming round to take the reading.
I was also told i have high gas consumption, in winter months i have the heating on 1 hour in morning and 2 in the evening, theres 3 of us living here so showers and 2 loads of washing weekly - as its always been except there used to be 6 of us and we were never told that before and I dont think compared to friends of mine who have heating on all day and daily machine loads it is high consumption.
How do I challenge this? and I'm so confused over why my bill is saying i dont need to take action when clearly i do

do you have kWh figures for your actual annual usage for both electricity & gas?0
-
The final meter readings for the latest bill, are they estimates or actual reads, and do they match you own read or are they far off?0
-
I’ve given them the readings today and it’s gone from me owing 1500 to 19000

And they have now used the correct meter readings?
It sounds very much like this is a catch up bill and they estimated your usage before. You are saying you submitted meter readings? Have those been used, or was there an estimate used that was too low? What have you done when the meter readings were not used?
How much energy have you used the last 12 months?0 -
This was something I noticed after getting my first bill from EDF (being moved when Utility Point folded). I'd been reading about everyone's DDs being doubled and more, yet my bill 'suggested' I might want to raise my DD to take into account the price rises. At the time I was about £400 in credit and I only upped it from £135 to £170 about 6 weeks ago when I took their fix offer.
How many people who are struggling wouldn't voluntarily raise their DD, quite a few I expect. Also, because of EDF's twice yearly billing, it's a long time between to know how you stand - unless of course you take readings and work it all out yourself, which many can't.
I've got fingers crossed my next bill, taking into account my higher price fix, but my £400 credit and low usage, will not be too bad, but I've no idea really. The important things in life are not things ........0 -
Do you have a smart meter? If so download the bright app and you can easily translate usage into costs and keep a track of your energy costs.funny.money said:This was something I noticed after getting my first bill from EDF (being moved when Utility Point folded). Alternatively any actual meter readings from dumb meters and a simple spreadsheet and you will know exactly what you are using, your credit buffer and future usage costs👍1 -
Thank you Mstty, no I don't have a smart meter, yet - that was included to be installed with my last fix. I do know my way around an excel spreadsheet - but very basically. I wouldn't really know where to start with energy usage 😕The important things in life are not things ........0

we haven’t t been “on it” but that’s mostly because my bills say that my DD covers me and I don’t need to worry - this has led me into a false sense of security I think
they just told me by dd is going from 128 to 697 a month I literally want to cry
I was happy (well not happy but expecting) to increase my d d so I feel that they’ve misled me by not telling me I need to up it ?0 -
@Teamss Can we just check you are reading the meter correctly ? Some meters can be difficult to read look for the decimal point.
What is your reading please ? What was the last meter reading by a meter reader ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
