Excess Cash - What to do with it?

I think it depends on the rest of your assets (and any other liabilities) and your tolerance for risk really.
If you're looking for that void between cash/savings and equities then there are options but it depends again on risk tolerance.
But I sense this is more of a higher level discussion rather than getting into investing details1 -
If I was in your position I’d be booking myself onto a round the world cruise!0

Buying another property doesn't have to turn you into a scummy landlord.
If I had the money I would buy a second property and rent it out (for not much more than the mortgage) to my ex who is currently at the mercy of a scummy landlord. She would be happy to be able to save some money herself, and I would have an asset in the future (Although in truth I would probably gift it to her when it was paid.)
Do you have a good friend or relative that is struggling?
Think first of your goal, then make it happen!0 -
You are in a fortunate position and there are a number of options but basically it boils down to the following.
Repay debt or mortgage. Even though you have a low LTV mortgage and are 20 years from retirement the chances are the rate on the mortgage is higher than you get in your cash savings accounts. I think I would err towards that.
Save or invest either in pension( already maxed that one) or stocks and shares isas or if very risk averse a reasonable fixed term savings instrument.
Spend more. Book yourself a nice holiday, do some home improvements, gift to family/charity or buy a new car.
