Cancelled EZY8537

Hi all

We we’re due to fly out to Fuerteventura on 25/6/2022 @ 16.25 however the flight was cancelled at 12.00pm the same day. No reason was given on the email.

I was able to find any flights using a different carrier for the same day so had to reluctantly accept another easyJet flight departing on Sunday 26th June 2022. EasyJet did provide accommodation for the night but we had to fork out over £60 on a taxi from Brighton to Gatwick on the Sunday (I have the receipt for this) and more importantly, we lost a days holiday.

Just wondering where I can claim compensation from for losing a days holiday plus the extra expenses incurred.

Obviously the flight was with EasyJet but it was booked as a package holiday through On The Beach incl ATOL protection and I also had travel insurance, which one do I approach?

Any help would be gratefully received!

Unless the flight was cancelled because of extraordinary circumstances then EasyJet are liable to pay you compensation of £220pp, but it's unlikely that they'd be on the hook for anything else if they provided a replacement flight and overnight accommodation at no additional cost, or was the accommodation in Brighton (and if so, was it reasonable to use a taxi rather than train)?

In terms of losing a day's holiday, you could try On The Beach, on the basis that you paid for n nights and only received n-1, and if that doesn't bear fruit then your insurer would be the next step if there's appropriate cover for that scenario.

What other expenses are you thinking of?

Thank you, the accommodation they provided was in Brighton and there was a train strikes and knock on delays so I would say it was reasonable for us to get a taxi bearing in mind they didn’t provide their own transport and they didn’t provide a hotel closer to Gatwick. That’s the only direct expense I would be claiming.

Ill also give On the Beach a go and if not my travel insurance was pretty comprehensive so definitely worth trying.

Thanks for the helpful information 😊
  • Update, submitted my claim to EasyJet on 27/7/2022 and they replied on 6/8/2022 stating our claim was accepted, will be receiving £350pp! Still need to update the claim to include our taxi fare but very pleased with how quickly it was dealt with and that it is more than we thought we would get 😊
Thank you @eskbanker for your help
