How Can I Retire

Hello
I am a 68 y-o caretaker who is getting more and more tired so I would dearly like to retire. The problem is that, because I am a caretaker, my home comes with the job and as soon as I retire I lose my home.
I am on the basic Old-Age Pension of £730 a month, with about £15,000 savings, so how can I rent a flat for the remainder of my days with very little income?
Hoping someone can give me tips on how to go forward.
Thanks in advance.

My mum and dad came out of tied housing on dad’s retirement. They had to get a letter from dads employer to say he had to leave the house which they gave to the council and they did get a council house though dad had retired quite a few months prior to getting council house. They had to stay in the tied house until the council house was available, to move out would have meant they had taken other suitable housing. Luckily dads employer was very understanding .
On retirement, as their income was state pension and very small private pension, state benefits and pension credits meant they had enough to live on for dad to keep his car and have a holiday each year. They were never going to be rich but had enough to get by on.Approach your council for housing and also look at some benefits boards to see what you are entitled to.2 -
I think this may be better on the benfits board?
On the assumption your only income is state pension ( no private, no local gov pensions) you may get pension credit and then housing benefit to help with rent. I think with less than 16k in the bank you might qualify1 -
@deacongoodyear - I can request a move to the benefits board if you like?I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I don't think this is about retirement so much as help with housing - and the experts are Shelter: https://www.shelter.org.ukdeacongoodyear said:Hello

Thanks in advance.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Might want to merge it with the one on the benefits board:

Speak with your local council and look to see what housing associations are around, sign up and explain your circumstances. Being an older person, there are options available.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0
