Hi all,
My friend has just split with her wife with whom she had a joint claim during this assessment period for the cost of living payment. She now lives on her own with her child and they have separated their UC claims. Does anyone know if they will still have to share a payment if it goes through to just one of them or they will each get their own? Her wife is demanding that if she gets the money she gives her half.

Had a look online and she’s going to put a note on her journal but can’t imagine she’s the only one who has split up during all this and so wondered if anyone had any insight?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

I would expect that the payment will go to whoever was receiving the UC payments for the assessment period that ended during the qualifying period.
I don't think UC will be able to advise because they are not involved in administering the CoL payments.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.2 -

I would expect the payment to be made into the bank account that was used for payments for the joint claim at the time of eligibility. One member of the ex-couple will get the payment and one will lose out.As @calcotti says, payments are not made through UC so UC will not be able to advise.

This is correct. The £326 will go to the same bank account that UC was paid into. Each person will be able to claim the second payment though, if either is in receipt of UC on the relevant date in October.
