I have a phone that has a dual SIM. I have a Smarty rolling PAYG which is £6 monthly but want another SIM card on a call-only basis. ie I don't want to pay monthly for it, I just want to use it for incoming calls. I don't wish to go down the route of paying monthly or having Data allowances etc, I just need something I can put a few quid on for occasional calls that won't expire in 30 days. Does anyone know of anything suitable? Thanks

So does that mean your current Smarty SIM is Data Only? I thought they were more for 4G routers etc where calls & texts would never been needed. But for use in a phone there seems little price benefit in going Data Only.

bear in mind that most sims require a chargeable call/text every so often to keep the number 'alive'. A lot of providers still do pay as you go, eg Asda mobile, just don't buy a 'bundle' when you top up

No, SMarty number is my main phone number, I just wanted another number so that my wife can call me on that number. My SMARTY is £6 for 4gb data, Free calls and text too so a good deal but it piggybacks 3. This RWG piggybacks EE so I should get a decent signal wherever I am. I paid £5 one-off fee and get minutes, text and data every month for that

Can I ask how you decide, or more to the point how you tell your phone which sim you want to use in a 2 sim phone?  Mine will soon be a new Motorola dual sim phone.  I would like to keep my original number with Asda mobile for incoming calls/messages from doctors, hospitals and banks who send security numbers to this number, then i would use the new RWG number to call out. The few people who call me will always use the old number.  Not sure how time consuming or problematic it will be to use a dual sim to make calls.  It’s an android phone.  Thanks

    From another thread

You can either set a default SIM, or be prompted each time you make a call or send an SMS.
Even with a default set, you can choose when you make a call/SMS.

You can usually also set a default by contact.

In most dual SIM phones, both numbers/SIM can receive calls and SMS, but not a second call, while there is an active call.

Thanks, yes I did read that thread thanks.  I was really asking how to set the default sim etc, perhaps that is specific to each phone make as to how to actually do it.  Perhaps all will become clear once i get the phone and insert the 2 sims.
    thanks.

It does depend on the phone, and the Android version.

But it will be something like
    Settings
    Network and Internet
    Calls and SMS
    (Or
    SIMS
    Select one if the SIMs
    Call Preference and SMS Preference)

You can also change Calling option in
    Phone
    Three dots (top right)
    Settings
    Calling accounts
    Make and receive calls

To set default for a Contact
    Contacts
    Select a contact
    Three dots (top right)
    Set calling SIM
