Buying cheap hard drives online - Morgan Ingland Ltd?

That old saying "if it sounds too good to be true".

Was looking at a 6TB drive for the PC based on cost. Would've preferred an 8TB as that's what has come out.

Funny because 2 days ago it was £110, yesterday it was £115 & today it's back to £110.
The 8TB version is £156.

Other online retailers are in and about that range. Example - Scan is cheaper at £149 but it's in and about there. Not sure what the total cost will be when you factor in delivery (I have Prime so don't get that with Amazon).

But then I saw this Morgan Ingland Ltd 8TB Seafate Barracuda. £120.

Tried to do a search on the company but didn't find much. Nothing like a Trustpilot or whatever. I did find this though: https://companycheck.co.uk/company/10146519/MORGAN-INGLAND-LIMITED/companies-house-data

You lot will be better at spotting red flags than me. Would you go for this if you were after an 8TB drive or would you just stump up the extra £36 and go with Amazon?

Actually, I'd possibly stick with the 6TB going with Amazon. Not fully decided yet.

Thanks for the suggestion but more than I'm wanting to pay at the moment tbh.

Just looking for a hard drive for the PC.

When I get a NAS & have it up & running then I'll be looking to load with drives then. Not sure on capacity at the moment but I don't particularly want to buy anything in early & have the warranty clock ticking away.

Example - I've just this week moved to Windows 10.

I've totally gutted everything in the PC room & got more organised. One job was marking up the hard drives - where I bought them from, the date I bought them (easy warranty check purposes).

The SSD I bought for moving to Windows 10 .... I bought 3rd April ......... 2020. It's been sat in its box for 2 years doing naff all.

For the record, I paid £129.95 for it. The exact same drive is now priced at .... £129.99. lol

Barge-pole imho, fill in the bits missing

I was thinking that when I checked the site out but wasn't 100% sure.

Don't want to say too much. The year is 2022. You get accused of all sorts these days because it's fashionable to do so.

I'm afraid I wasn't born with the filter that most people seem to have :)

I tracked them down on Trustpilot and Google streetview.  They do appear to exist, and they have a double shop in Birmingham.

Personally, if the price is very good, I'd buy from them, but (as always) I'd use a card that will refund me if the goods don't turn up.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • I decided against it in the end & went with Amazon. I'd rather pay a bit more and rightly/wrongly assume I'm getting something a bit more of a reliable experience.

Although various bits of Googling state the BarraCuda is pretty crap. Other bits say Seagate bought out WD, other bits not so much. Who knows. Not me.

That price is "Excl. VAT" whereas the Amazon price includes VAT.

Yes as above - Morgan Ingland is excluding VAT, most likely as although they'll supply to anyone - they are more tailored towards business customers - but they do at least have a shop front on google maps which is re-assuring.
