I'll just mention that it's quite common for electric blankets that cover most of the bed to have more closely spaced heating wires at the foot of the bed to heat this area more.1

Yes, I annoyingly found that out when I bought a double. I then replaced it with a kingsize. So damn annoying.FreeBear said:
I have a couple of electric blankets (Silentnight), and they don't go all the way from head to foot. Just measured one - It is roughly 1250mm long so you could heat the bottom end of the bed and be slightly chilly around the shoulders.Mrs_F_2017 said: Can you get electric blankets that just go at the foot end of the bed?0 -
Thanks all for the electric blanket tips! I will look at the sizes!0

Relating back to a comment earlier:
I am astounded and shocked that ppl seem to need their heating on all night. WHY?
Add an electric blanket, hot water bottle, extra duvet, wear pyjams - not turn on the heating which should go off about 2 hours before retiring AND maybe come on 30 mins before getting up......

As I don't think it's been mentioned some electric blankets are of a mattress topper style that completely cover the mattress like a fitted sheet. That's the type I have now and think are the best. They tend to be more expensive though. Not sure if summer is a good time to looks for deals on electric blankets or not!Mrs_F_2017 said:Thanks all for the electric blanket tips! How would some modern types have survived years ago? When I were a lad the inside of my bedroom window would be iced over in winter!5

Mine was until I moved house last year. No central heating. I'd often wake to a bedroom temp of 6C during cold spells. With multiple quilts and an electric blanket I'd often be too warm in bed.oldagetraveller1 said:How would some modern types have survived years ago? When I were a lad the inside of my bedroom window would be iced over in winter!1 -
For most that will be zero issue. For those who work night shifts it could be a big issue though!QrizB said:Article from Germany about one large landlord who will be adjusting heating systems to a maximum of 17C overnight, expecting to save 8% on energy bills:
