@Ultrasonic I agree, that first clunk and gurgle at 6.30 is like an alarm clock on a winter morning.
Always considered myself someone who easily feels the cold but I can't stand a warm stuffy bedroom either. Super warm duvet is a must but I need to breathe cool air.
I never realised until recently that so many people do heat the house all night.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

My electric blanket has a mode to supposedly just provide a little heat if it gets cold overnight but I just woke up hot when I tried it! This might be a good feature for anyone who feels they do need heating on overnight though.0 -
I can't believe I just posted electric blanket advice on the day we've had warning about dangerously high temperatures over the next few days!2

Lol indeed - it took me a few years to understand why some people avoid old houses. Looking at nearly £4k annual gas bill at current consumption if rates go up to 12p / kWh as predicted in Oct. We're getting external wall insulation to the solid wall parts which will make a big saving, but it may not be in until next summer.Move house?

I don't need an electric blanket, hubby is in bed most nights by 8.30 as he starts work at 4am. He's warmed the bed already when I go upBarnsley, South Yorkshire

Ultrasonic said: I have my heating off overnight in winter. Firstly to not waste energy but secondly as the noise of it coming on would probably wake me up!Although I have a minimum temperature set for overnight in the winter months, I think the boiler only kicked in a couple of times over Christmas. From memory, this was usually around 05:00 or 06:00.With the new DG windows and insulation upgrades, hopefully, next winter the boiler will not be needed so early in the morning.

I am considering an electric blanket this winter - we have a log burner which makes downstairs toasty and takes the chill off upstairs but the bed will still be cold. I have a hot water bottle for my feet but feel I could do with a bit more. Can you get electric blankets that just go at the foot end of the bed?I also never knew so many people heated their house overnight. I will have my bedroom window open all year round overnight - I like to be snug under the duvet but with cold air on my face.2
