I ordered a JCW in May.  The dealer believes it will come in November but I don’t have a build date yet.

Does anyone have any inside knowledge of realistic timescales please.

So you were quite right.  Just because one dealer says they cannot provide anything meaningful date wise doesn’t mean others can’t.  Went to another dealer and placed an order.  I was also told that the road tax for JCW for the second and third year onwards at the first dealer was nearly £600 per year which isnt correct.

Thank you for all your inputs and very useful info.  I know this thread wasn’t very MSE but it’s really helped me.  I could  have waited until Oct to see what was around and would have got something of course but not a Mini I suspect.  If the order dates go kerputt then Mini will give me my deposit back.  They think Nov will be fine.
Can you still get your money back if the Nov date is not met?  You really can't do any more than go with what the Dealer is advising you.

This might be better in your other thread:

Which colour did you go for?  Black, Blue, or Green?

Have you even placed an order if you've not confirmed colour?

Make sure it has a black roof, they look much better. ;)

All black is a £750 option. doesn't look as good, and always looks dirty, I'd definitely go for the green.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

The way it works is your dealer will have a rough lead time which is supplied by the manufacturer. This will be the average time from order to build at the time you placed your order.

But things change in between. I would expect there to be an estimated build date at least but some manufacturers don’t do that and only offer confirmed dates which come later.

There isn’t a lot you can do you now have to wait till more information is received which could be much closer to November.

Funnily enough dealer has just told me estimated delivery date is 28 Nov (the day I need to give my old car back!).

I can manage until mid December as I can use my son’s car for a few weeks as he will be at university.  After that it will become much more tricky.

I will wait until mid Sept, I am not holding anyone to anything.  I can extend my current car by giving a months notice but I will need to then do an MOT and potentially another service which I am trying to avoid.  Wondering whether the current dealer would do it for me as they are both Mini’s.

Now the cynic in me says that your dealer knows your key dates and mysteriously your new car will be available just after you've MOT'd your current one - and of course for the MOT it'll need a bit of work doing ;)

my interesting…. My current Mini is on a personal lease and nothing to do with the Mini dealer I am buying my new car from.

Yes, quite a coincidence though I guess.  And yes, they do know the date I need to give my old car back.
