Can anyone help with my EasyJet compensation claim? Won't pay for taxi, and lower than expected.

They’ll come up with anything to get out of paying.
As I said I had a written offer and I had every excuse under the sun from “Walter”.

    Strange...

Generally the airline is obliged to provide EITHER rerouting OR compensation: not both. Depending on when your flight touched down at Gatwick you might perhaps be entitled to compensation for delay, but not compensation for the cancellation since you were re-routed. (Delays in luggage handling after landing are not taken into account when deciding whether delay compensation is due.)

Re-routing includes transport to your original destination, although when your destination is a city served by several airports (such as London) they might be able to maintain that all they need to do is take you to any London airport. Perhaps that is why they claim that the taxi ride is a "private arrangement".

No, the regulations are quite clear that in the event of the airline cancelling a flight at short notice, the passenger is entitled to both compensation (if the airline can't hide behind extraordinary circumstances) and rerouting, and duty of care too if applicable:

    Article 5

    Cancellation

    1. In case of cancellation of a flight, the passengers concerned shall:

    (a) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 8 [rerouting]; and

    (b) be offered [duty of care] assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 9(1)(a) and 9(2), as well as, in event of re-routing when the reasonably expected time of departure of the new flight is at least the day after the departure as it was planned for the cancelled flight, the assistance specified in Article 9(1)(b) and 9(1)(c); and

    (c) have the right to compensation by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 7, unless [notified well in advance]

This is mirrored in EasyJet's own notice of rights page:

    Flight cancellation

If your flight is cancelled, you may be entitled to the rights set out in sections 2 [rerouting] and 3 [care]. You may also be entitled to compensation under section 1 of this notice EXCEPT when [notified far enough in advance or extraordinary circumstances]

Re-routing includes transport to your original destination, although when your destination is a city served by several airports (such as London) they might be able to maintain that all they need to do is take you to any London airport.
The point I was making was that this stance would be in direct contravention of Article 8(3), quoted earlier.

Thank you all so much for your input, it really appreciated.

The 'Private arrangement' thing stood out for me too. I provided them with a photo of the company branded taxi reciept, with the date and amount on it. Ill be happy to send them the card payment statement too if they need it.

There were no staff around upon landing (and in Ibiza too..there were only two staff we could see there, and one was a trainee). Cabin crew were amazing in the tough time they were having, but they explained that due to staff shortages pretty much all staff they have are in the air!

There was no specified alternative transfer arrangements put on by Easyjet.... and if there had been, the 2 + hour wait for luggage may have scuppered that anyway.

As for the train, due to the timing of recieving the luggage we would have had to wait over an hour for the net train I beleive, and I genuinely thought tikets for 4 people would likely be close to match a cab fare. Ill be happy to recoup what I can.

    Thanks again.

If there is a genuine reason you couldn’t get the train (and a 1 hour wait on top of everything else is a valid reason in my book) then I’d go for the taxi cost.

previous to this information I said train cost but this is new info.

i would recommend legal insurance if you don’t have it. Mines around £15 per year and it’s worth it even if you just speak to a solicitor once.
