Rejected Flight Cancellation Compensation Claim

Options
I booked my holiday through On The Beach, and my flights were with Easyjety. Four days before we were due to fly we had a text message from On The Beach to say that as our flights had been cancelled by Easyjet they were cancelling our whole holiday as it was a major disruption. We then got an email from Easyjet to say that our flight had been cancelled and offering us either an alternative flight, or a refund. As we had signed a document with On The Beach for them to collect our refund, (they were refunding the whole cost of the holiday and claiming it back from Easyjet) we didn't look at any alternative flights as the whole holiday, (hotel and transfers had already been cancelled). We desperately searched for a new holiday, maxed out our credit cards to do it so that we could have our holiday. But had to book a completely different country. Not the holiday we had hoped for. We have submitted a claim to Easyjet for the cancelled flight but it has been rejected. They have said we should received an email but we have not. I am chasing them up today to find out why it has been rejected but from what I have read, we should be entitled to compensation based on the fact it was due to the airline cancelling the flight that caused the whole holiday to be cancelled. Has anyone else had this problem? There must be hundreds of people in the same situation. And can I resubmit the claim? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

easyJet are only responsible for the flight part of your holiday.

Your gripe is with on the beach who you signed the paperwork with for cancelling the whole holiday rather than attempting to arrange new flights.

You are getting a refund of your flight that easyJet cancelled , as required, but you booked the whole package via someone else

Please can you clarify - did you try to claim for a refund for the cancelled flight twice ? With OTB and with EasyJet ?The airline  will only pay out the refund once - Has Easyjet refunded OTB ? You should be getting your full holiday refund from OTB .

I think you are looking for compensation which is payable if a flight is cancelled within 14 days of departure? The problem with OTB, at least from others who have commented here, is that they are getting more than 14 days' notice but failing to pass the information on.

OTB does not provide your email address to airlines, so they have no choice but to notify your agent and if they did that more than 14 days in advance, no compensation is payable. On the other hand, if it was only cancelled 4 days before departure you may be entitled to substantial compensation direct from Easyjet, there is a form to claim on their website
  • I have been refunded by On The Beach, but it was Easyjet who have cancelled the flight, and my understanding is that even if it is booked through a tour operator the airline are still responsible for paying compensation. As a further update, Easy jet have now said that I do not meet their criteria, they are saying that the name on the booking is incorrect. I booked the holiday for 11 of us. I have put the claim in, claiming for everyone, which is what I thought I could do. Has anyone else tried to claim compensation from Easyjet, but having booked through a tour operator?

their claim form states "If you are not the booker, but are a passenger on the booking, then you can only claim for yourself. To claim for multiple people please contact the booker."
I suspect the 'booker' will be OnTheBeach

I can’t see OTB dealing with this.  I think ‘lead passenger named’ is a better term than ‘booker’ in this instance.
