Very difficult for people who are in financial difficulty to take time off work without pay, if they test positive but won't be paid (or no more than SSP) to isolate.

Thanks for all the replies. So basically, once I feel better, go back whether positive or not. Colleagues were already unhappy yesterday because we had a positive case in at work.
Again, this is obviously why numbers are going up again.

    Thanks again.
If you test positive, para 3, Stay at home, clearly says, isolate for 5 days, (6 days including the test day.)

Good luck, hope you're feeling better.

I have a friend with long covid which is really limiting in what he can do, the actual covid period was quite mild.
Guidance not law though. What are people supposed to do if they aren't going to get paid if the self-isolate?

Given there is no free testing anymore, if you are feeling ill then you take time off sick, if you don't feel ill you go to work.

For those who can't WFH yes, but no different to any other sickness?

Ideally use their emergency fund savings (I appreciate the issue is that not everyone has this).

It is different as we know that (a) covid spreads easily and (b) vulnerable people can become very ill or even die. This isn't a routine cold.

Talk to your employer and see what they say is the main advice now.

Many will be good enough to give the time off paid.
not if yoou are on a production line, retail etc unless you are staff - the 'paid time' you refer to is the standard sick pay inc works money from after x amount of days.

    Oh absolutely.

Sorry, I meant from a financial point of view it should be no different.
if people are only entitled to SSP then that’s all they’d get if they were off work with any other illness, so the same financial planning should apply as if they were off work with flu or cancer and only getting SSP.

if their employer doesn’t cover it and they can’t live off SSP then they need other financial plans in place.
    long term - insurance
    short term - savings

getting covid is now a foreseeable event.

    Subheading, "stay at home"

"If testing positive, stay at home for 5 days."

When infection rates are increasing, as they are, surely the sensible thing to do is to  "stay at home" if you have tested positive.
Well I would think I should stay at home but they've said no. Wednesday is day 5 and I'm due back on Thursday so hopefully I'll be negative by then.

Well thats what I've done and been told that once I feel better, to come in, that I can come to work with Covid unless I'm not well enough.
