Average KWh used for appliances which can't be turned off?

We went on holiday recently and when we returned I was interested to see how much electricity our house used with nothing on apart from the fridge, WiFi and security camera. Looks like it was about 2.4KWh per day. Does that sound OK? The fridge is pretty old so probably not very energy efficient.

Yes, that's a base load of 100W which is a little higher than the average MSEer but not at all unusual.

Yep that's about right ours is 2kw for the day0

Good to know, thank you!0

Ours never gets lower than 166W since our tortoise laid eggs and I'm attempting to hatch them. And that 1 neon tetra inherited from M-I-L is still alive, arghhhhh. At least the tank heater isn't clicking in with the warm weather.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

We did something similar last weekend for 3 nights. We switched every electrical appliance off except for the fridge/freezer, chest freezer, router and gas combi boiler.
Works out those base items used around 1.9kw/h per day, compared to around 6.5 kw/h when our house is fully occupied and appliances back on.
We probably need to buy a more efficient chest freezer to replace our 8 year old one.0 -
I doubt you need a new one your daily usage is lower than the average with the chest freezer.ZolaBuddy said:We did something similar last weekend for 3 nights. We switched every electrical appliance off except for the fridge/freezer, chest freezer, router and gas combi boiler.

If it ain't broken don't fix it1 -
If you truly only had those items on then how good/bad it is depends on how big your fridge/freezer is? 2.4 kWh per day equates to 876 kWh per year. If you compare this to annual consumption figures for modern fridge-freezers you can do the sums on the energy/money you could save. My hunch is you might conclude it's worth buying a new fridge-freezer...Gazelle1985 said:We went on holiday recently and when we returned I was interested to see how much electricity our house used with nothing on apart from the fridge, WiFi and security camera. For contrast, on days when I'm away my electricity use is about 1 kWh per day.1 -
Might be worth spending £10 or so on one of the plug-in gadgets that will tell you the amount of electricity an appliance is using. Plenty on the market, I use a Tapo P110 which is also a smart plug.
You could monitor the items for 48 hours each and work out if it is worth replacing the fridge.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Just done a calculation for 8 days away and we used 1.5kw per day. Fridge, freezer, fish tank pump, light on a timer and a router I forgot to turn off.0

Good idea about the electricity monitoring plug - sounds like our fridge is actually using quite a lot compared to others.
I just realised that it includes TV on standby too, but I can't think what else there would be.0
