Broadband contract advice

Options
I have just ended my virgin contract as the price will double if a continue,  I'm struggling with finding a similar fast provider that doesn't charge for land line installation.  Trying to think of a way round to continue with virgin and I'm contemplating putting the account in my daughters name (different to mine) and it can come out of her bank too?  Sneaky and good or a step too far? Advice please everyone, TIA

Have you used the MSE broadband tool to see what else is out there?

When my contract comes to an end I use a mobile and/or hotspots until I find the right deal, I am quite happy to wait months if I have to.

"Fast" is a subjective term, so I guess you need to use the BT Broadband availability checker to see what other speeds you can get

I do not see an issue with you ending your contract and your daughter starting another, you are both adults and if you determine that she is responsible for Broadband it is no different to a partner wanting a few utilities in their name to help with opening a bank account etc.

I would not tell Virgin but I am sure people do that sort of thing all the time. I am sure that there are people who share broadband with neighbours or businesses next door and why not when prices are at such rip off levels.

Someone I know has formed a co-operative in his block of flats, they have had ethernet cabling of all flats to the meter cupboards on each floor and between floors.  One of these has all the alarms and door video kit, so they are going to pipe broadband to that cupboard and share it.  They are all getting their own router at cost and they share the cost. One of them is a tech and has created different networks for each one.
  • Cheers for this answer, I will do another search before sorting this new contract with my daughter.

Do you have a physical openreach line running into your property that could be reactivated?

When researching the costs it could be that other providers are cheaper overall even when factoring in the cost of the landline.

You don't say what you currently pay or broadband speed and additional features received with Virgin. What do you want from a new provider, just straightforward high speed broadband or tv and a phone service?

If you use Virgin email consider switching to someone like Gmail asap to avoid losing your records.
