New build home when to buy furniture?

Most companies won’t “hold” furniture they simply don’t have storage facilities and often only have the space in the warehouse to hold enough stock for the short time between it going in warehouse and delivered0

Keep in mind that it's harder to do snagging with furniture in.0

Racky_Roo said:I didn't order until I exchanged, thank goodness I didn't as my ready date was moved 4 times over 2 months.
Pretty much everything was delivered within a day or 2 of moving in with the exception of the sofa which had a 12 week lead time so I just bought something cheap from Gumtree and then resold it when my sofa was ready for delivery.
Some companies won't hold anything for you (Argos, Dunelm to name a couple) as they just receive the order, send it to a courier and then the courier delivers. So I wouldn't risk it personally.
The one exception was I bought a chair from Made.com in their sale, at the time it had a 12 week lead time and I was due to move in 6 weeks. Of course there were then delays to the house being ready so ended up having it delivered to my parents who stored it in their garage.
I suppose that might be what the OP has in mind. If he can perform a magic trick of the new furniture arriving at the house on the day he completes, he saves the cost of transporting his old furniture. Plenty of opportunity to go drastically wrong, though.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
There is also the option of doing without certain bits of furniture for a while after you move in - lets you double check measurements too - I basically camped for the first month after I bought, I had an air mattress, a bookcase and a stool... If you have decided what you want, how long are the delivery in times?

Many thanks all for your support and input. We've looked this through and we've decided to wait and buy the furniture when we get gbe notice to move in. Have checked most furniture retailers and it takes about 10 days for oder and delivery so we should be OK.

We were told at one furniture place we could order anything they had available and agree a delivery date at any time in the future - the implication being that we could get current sale prices for items we'd want in a year from now or longer. We moved in in October and ordered a sofa bed the day we completed. It arrived in February. We had a sofa already, but we lacked a spare bed. As it turns out the sofa we had but planned to get rid of has ended up in another room and makes the house better.I think waiting until you're in is good as it gives you time to decide what works best in a house. With a new build there is no guarantee that how the house is designed will suit your lifestyle or where they think is a good space for a TV is actually good.A lived in house has the advantage of the previous owner doing all this for you.May you find your sister soon Helli.
