New build home when to buy furniture?

Hi all we have a compliacted situation. We bought a new build and we have just been told the anticipated completion date is September, and we exchanged contracts a few days ago. However, I am also aware that the dates can change and we could end up moving October or even November. We are hoping to buy new furrniture like the beds and sofas, as what we have is pretty much trashed over the years. The issue is that, is it possible to buy furniture and ask for delivery anytime within a space of say September the 1st till November the 30th, to give us some flexibility?. I doubt this is possible but thought i would ask as I am sure there must be options out there for new build homes, and they dont have a certain date?

    Some retailers might be flexible over delivery dates. Ask....!
    But read some of the threads on this site and see how much New Build completion dates sometimes change. Don't order unless you can be sure that felivery can be after Compeltion unless of course you can store stuff tempoarily!

    Just buy it from somewhere which doesn't demand huge lead-in times for their teams of elves to craft your sofas etc. The likes of Ikea can deliver almost immediately.

    Typically, you will be given 10 days notice before completion (but double check that in the contract).

    The only 'safe' time to buy/order furniture is during that 10 day period, or after you've moved in.


    Also, do you have a long-stop date in your contract (aligned with your mortgage offer expiring)? If you do, there's the possibility that you'll never actually buy the property.

    If completion of your new house is delayed beyond a certain date, does your contract give you the right to pull out?

    And make sure you use cash / debit card and not take on any finance before completing, otherwise you'll risk losing your mortgage offer.
    Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

    So if you pull out - I guess you won't want the furniture. 

    So that's probably a reason not to order the furniture in advance.

    I didn't order until I exchanged, thank goodness I didn't as my ready date was moved 4 times over 2 months.
    Pretty much everything was delivered within a day or 2 of moving in with the exception of the sofa which had a 12 week lead time so I just bought something cheap from Gumtree and then resold it when my sofa was ready for delivery. 

    Some companies won't hold anything for you (Argos, Dunelm to name a couple) as they just receive the order, send it to a courier and then the courier delivers. So I wouldn't risk it personally.

    The one exception was I bought a chair from Made.com in their sale, at the time it had a 12 week lead time and I was due to move in 6 weeks. Of course there were then delays to the house being ready so ended up having it delivered to my parents who stored it in their garage.
