You can't send short code sms messages from overseas as they are country specific.LeesArt said:
Paypal send via SMS but they send a ramdom 6 digit number, maybe that is something Barclays could consider.Neil49 said:
I totally agree with what you say but I also think that Barclays should be more proactive and introduce other (possibly more secure) means of authentication.Jonboy_1984 said:You have dodged another bullet as well, Plusnet don’t allow text messages to be sent to SMS short codes. This caused problems this week as Barclays sent a text to my wife to authenticate a transaction and she couldn’t reply. These 2FA texts are slowly becoming more common but Plusnet are not looking to change anytime soon (I emailed them to ask).
I often get requests to authenticate transactions on my Tesco credit card, but the process to do so requires me to sign into my account and approve it rather than simply respond to a text message.
Once you know what is required then you can be ready to respond accordingly.
I suspect that it helps them that a user follows more solid action so they can't be held responsible for people being scammed.
So what happens if you are abroad where you might pay for roaming to receive or send SMS?
There is no charge for receiving sms messages.
Given that Plusnet (which is the company your original post was all about) don't support short code sms messages then it doesn't matter whether you are abroad or not!
There is a charge in for receiving sms messages in some countries, I know because I have been charged them.
In which countries..?
