Front door light

I was fussy with our outside light too.

We have an open porch/archway so opted for a central hanging lantern on a chain, and a separate PIR sensor in the corner. The sensor itself isn’t hidden, but you have to look up to find it and only then when you are in the porch itself. The wire is neatly hidden behind some wooden beading on the porch roof and only activates once someone steps into the porch. The lantern was a bit pricey but the sensor was just a cheap one from Toolstation. DH fitted it and said it was simple to do.1 -
Philips Hue is a WiFi based system with separate sensors and lights; you could even have your hall lights come on too.It is based around smart bulbs rather than fittings, so you don't need to replace the fitting.1

I have a microwave bulb in the hall at around £12 far cheaper than Philips Hue and it happily turns on before you open the door.prowla said:Philips Hue is a WiFi based system with separate sensors and lights; you could even have your hall lights come on too.It is based around smart bulbs rather than fittings, so you don't need to replace the fitting.1 -
but the op wants to change the fitting as they don't like it ...prowla said:Philips Hue is a WiFi based system with separate sensors and lights; you could even have your hall lights come on too.It is based around smart bulbs rather than fittings, so you don't need to replace the fitting.1 -

This is mine fitted under the transom to be inconspicuous. Works off rechargeable (by USB) batteries that last months & it mounts/de-mounts magnetically. Cost £14.

I bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09198L41F but there will be other "brand" versions all coming out of the same factory no doubt.
It's quite protected where it is so I wasn't looking for anything with IP65 etc. certification.
