Front door light

No idea, but worth a look? Pages of styles from different suppliers. I'm not 'recommending' them because I can't.

That’s what I was going to suggest too. Something like this might fit the bill:Upzeecreek said:Have you looked at Philips Hue? They do an outdoor sensor that is battery powered and outdoor lights. They are quite pricey but really simple way to achieve what you want.
https://www.philips-hue.com/en-gb/p/hue-white-turaco-outdoor-wall-light/1647293P0The sensor is wireless so you can position it wherever you want. You might also need a hue bridge for the sensor to work (not entirely sure on that).
it does all become quite expensive but perhaps might be a neater solution to what you want to achieve.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j1 -
If you have a porch then why not put in a ceiling light?
Light where you need it on the person and the door.
Separate sensor does not need to be expensive
https://www.toolstation.com/search?q=pir sensor
If the porch has space resessed sensor and a couple of resessed spots would be discreet
Then the wall light can be for looks.

how about getting a light you like and putting in a sensor lamp https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Lighting_Menu_Index/Lamps_and_Tubes_Index/GLS_Household_Sensor_Lamps/index.html2

The main cost will be, I suspect, the extra labour in running cables to the remote sensor, and the potential difficulty in hiding them. Having said that, the sensor you linked to is very neat :-)

Wow! I wonder how well they work? Could be a cracking solution.

I bought 1 of these last year to light up just the area of my front door for callers & for me when I return home in the dark, so far been very happy with it.
(I live in a Conservation Area so it had to be inconspicuous & this fits under the transom of the door)
Battery charge lasts months in my experience & is charged via USB (the light has magnetic mounts to a backplate so easily removed for charging)

So a lead going inside the house to the mains AND a wire connecting the sensor to the light? I don't mind the wire to the light, but additional wiring and work inside the house is a pain.Ectophile said:It isn't that complicated having a separate sensor, but you'd need to consider where the wires go. Most likely, it will end up being either mains feed to the sensor, then wire down to the lamp. Or mains feed to the lamp, then switching wire up to the sensor. But you need to decide where that new wire goes. Do you mind an extra wire running up the wall?
I assume you already have a mains power feed to the lamp. You don't need another one. It may not need any work inside the house at all.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
Id go with a ceiling lamp with built in pir, or a bulb with a pir, Not microwave, They see past doors and around corners.
If you get something like this below make sure its time is adjustable, Some are fixed at only 30s or 60s

..............
Uk link.

Or just use a dusk sensor and use a 1w bulb always on.
External Photocell

There are loads of solar PIR lights available. Our neighbours both have them for precisely the reason the OP want one - to put some light on the front door in order to find the keyhole. They seem to do the job perfectly adequately.
