Selling mobiles after min term
If I wanted to sell my mobile after the minimum term time has elapsed then what will make the phone more valuable? I know that an unlocked one is better but is there anything else that could be done? People seem to be paying quite a lot for 2nd hand phones and it appears that you could get most of your money back by just flogging them off after a year. This is what I intend to do when I eventually get my phone. Also is there any point in keeping the sim after you cancel the contract?

I'd say an unlocked phone still well sought after in its original box with manual, charger, etc. You could even throw in a o2 Online PAYG simcard and mention the 300 texts they'd get. These can be picked up for nothing when o2 do their free sim offer every so often.0

you can sell the phone straight away, the contract is for the sim card !!Ex forum ambassador

I think Browntoa's is the better idea. You'll be selling a new model; in a year's time it will be worth a lot less.0

Thank you people, this is exactly what I needed to know. if the contract is with the sim then it'll be worthless because I'll be definitely cancelling the contract rather than paying the full monthly price. It does not bother me having to change numbers if it means I can get a cheap deal again.0

I do the same; every year, I get a new contract with a new phone. Then I get the new phone unlocked, and sell it on. If I like the new phone I keep it and sell my old phone instead.
The inconvenience of having a new number is minor compared to the savings I make

Like the others have said sell the phone new and just keep the sim and contract for yourself.
Phones get dated very quickly, a year old second hand phone won't be worth a lot.

Why not just port your old number to your new contract ?0 -

Ideal if it's free to port your number across but some networks charge around £10 for the privilage. I'd rather tell a few dozen people I've got a new number

Also it's hassle to port a number if you stay on the same network (which I always do, Orange), since you can't port to the same provider, e.g Orange->Orange. Easiest way is to port to a PAYG sim like Virgin, then back to Orange. I only need to tell a handful of people my new number so I don't bother doing that.0
