The government will no doubt fudge the true figures by September making them less

In the real world civil service and other public sector pensioners will receive the full rate (whatever that will turn out to be) at next increase date while most private sector DB pensioners will receive a sharp real-term cut to their pensions. It's difficult to consider the idea that public sector pension scheme members have (or will be) somehow specially disadvantaged by the government as even a conspiracy theory, since it flies in the face of the actual history of events since the start of the old contracting out regime in 1978, if not earlier.

...and just wait for the penny to drop re public sector/private DB GMP increases for post 2016 SPA.

The difference hasn't been so noticeable thus far, due to the low cost of living increases - but next year it will stick out like a sore thumb.

@MouldyOldDoughYou’ve been claiming your pension since you were 45?
Possible if MOD retired on ill health grounds.
    Ahh yes of course.
    Correct IHR it is!

Why do people assume all civil servants should be up on government legislation etc.

I was a member of the civil service, I will receive a small civil service pension (limited years) but my job was on a RAF base and maintenance based, there are thousands like myself who are ex civil servants but not pen pushers.

Best job I ever had and the working conditions and benefits brilliant.

No-one is suggesting they should be.   However, you would expect them to know the difference between Government and Civil Service.

But you wouldn't say that you or your colleagues were the Government would you?

I was an engineer with MOD for 30 years and never told anyone that I worked for the government - I was just a "civil servant"

Its the fault of Bradley Walsh on "The Chase" - anyone who says that they are/were a civil servant - gets a reply "a Spy then ?"

I always found that one of the good things about telling people you were a civil servant is that they assumed you had a really boring desk job and didn't ask any further questions

That saved a lot of hassle trying to explain what you actually did, why it was a useful role and you were not just a 'pen pusher'.
