How? The CPI figures are produced by the ONS - ie civil servants
The most obvious thing that springs to mind is that the Government could decide that the most appropriate measure of the change in prices going forward is CPIH (latest change: 7.9%) rather than CPI (latest change 9.1%).
Across public service and State Pensions it would be a useful expenditure saving.

True but that's still the government changing the rules, not faking the inflation figures.

Given that I will be in receipt of my CS pension by next April I will be more than happy to accept the Government's kind offer of a 10% uplift next year (well a % of it as I take my pension next month).

I've been claiming my CS Pension since 2009
And I am still only 58 now

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

I’m about to partially retire and trying to work out whether it makes sense to take all my pension now even though it will be reduced for taking it early, because of the way it could go up with CPI at the moment.  Or is it best to leave some of it til age 67 and not have a reduction. I’m 57 now so quite a reduction but would the CPI offset the reduction to an extent??

Sounds like you are referring to Alpha.
Accrued entitlement to Alpha increases with CPI anyway.I think.
