That is sort of what I was asking! Mainly trying to suggest that if the choice to go KeePass was made many years ago, the world was a different place!
I think I may have had a similar issue to the one you mentioned, syncing updates in both directions was not smooth.
I stayed with LastPass, even after they started charging, for the emergency access feature. AFAIK none of the alternatives include that feature in the free versions. And it is the application I know, and it works for me (or what doesn't, doesn't appear to be any better elsewhere)
Finally, can you explain how the following is influencing your choice, as I think I am missing the reasoning:

When I bought my first computer about 4 or 5 years ago, I didn't have any peers that could help me find out about the internet, only library staff. As getting an infection on the computer was a major concern, restricting internet use until I became more experienced, seemed a sensible thing to do. At that early stage, I kept hearing that many websites had been infected, and so I had much more confidence in visiting major websites that were well known and had the resources to protect themselves. One story I had heard was that many websites didn't know they had been compromised, and that just by visiting one of those websites your machine would become infected.
