Issues at the car wash

Saw a thread yesterday about car washing with MrEskimo and Karen0252?

hot day and some of the trim on my new Mercedes convertible looks like it’s damaged by something they sprayed. Any chance someone else has seen this? Know how to fix it?

I think the trim is plastic or brushed metal?? The normal paintwork is fine.

Get some detailer spray and use that to clean off any residue left on the trim. Also, if you really want to care for your new car, don't take it to an automatic car wash.

If I had just bought a new mercedes convertible I certainly wouldn't be taking it to any old car wash. if I did it would be to reputable place where I know n trust the staff. personally though. on a day like to day, I'd rather stand it in my drive, get the bucket n sponge from the shed, water n elbow grease. job done.

    You're lucky.
I took my car to the hand car wash at the supermarket on the weekend and they refused to do my car because it was too dirty.

sounds like you needed to take your car home n wash it, take it back n then ask them to wash it.

This, by the bucket-load (excuse the pun!!)  I'm not particularly "precious" about my car, it's just an old workhorse.  But I do try and take care of it (can't afford for it not to last for a long time), and I always wash it myself.  I'd never take it within a mile of a garage forecourt carwash machine, and I'm too much of a tight-wad to pay someone else to do it
But particularly if you've spent a lot of money on a new car, I'd suggest you want to be doing it yourself - unless you've got a proper "professional" cleaner who really knows what he's doing and who genuinely cares about his customers.

The amount of people you see washing their nice cars with those brushes at car washes putting scratches in the clear coat upsets me. But if I had leased a car instead of buying it I wouldn’t care either.

The marks could be anything from a product drying on without being rinsed properly to a product etching into the plastic. I doubt it’s damaged it though, a decent cleaner should get it off.

DrEskimo, thank you very much... :P

A picture would help, but agree with above. Try seeing if a wash will get it off, if not you can step up to other techniques. It depends on exactly what has stained it and the specific material and finish of the trim.

Everybody is claiming they are short of cash and then going and blowing it at a car was. I gave that up a long time ago on the basis the money is better in my pocket than somebody elses.
Bucket and sponge is a lot cheaper - and as is obvious from some of the comments - safer.

Definitely cheaper. It’s only safer if you know what you are doing.
