Does entitlement move onto the next child? Uc

Hi I have 4 children and currently get uc paid for just the 2 eldest.

Their years of birth are

2004
2008
2020
2021

When child no 1 leaves education will I then get payments for child no 3? So only still paying for 2 children. Or does it not move down the line so to speak

Thankyou in advance

Yes, when child 1 leaves FTE then you'll receive money for child number 3 and so on.

Does the higher rate for the eldest child still stand, like with child benefit where a second child will get the higher rate?

In this case it will because it applies to the 1st child born before 6th April 2017, so once the eldest leaves FTE the the OP will be entitled to the higher rate for the child born in 2008.

Confusingly I always thought it moved on as per your reply but uc replied this morning and have said no that I will only receive one child element for my 2nd child.

    Should I reply to them?

    Hi Joanne
When Rory stops Full Time Education and turns 19 you will no longer receive any child element for him.
You will then only receive child element for one child born before 2016

That's not correct. A child born before 2016 has nothing to do with it anyway.

You should definitely contact them because they are wrong. If necessary request a Mandatory Reconsideration. (I assume they are aware of the third and fourth child.)
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Yes they are aware as it says on my statement that they pay for 2 out of 4 children. My son has a place on a college course for September but is debating other options too. Which is totally fine but I was trying to work out how much I will be affected financially so would have been helpful if they had answered correctly!!

When a child leaves or joins the household

The order of children in a household may change over time, should a child/children or QYPs join or leave the household. Each time this happens the order of the children and QYPs in the household needs to be reassessed.

Example, the second child could leave the household because they leave full time non-advanced education or move to live with another person. A third child (that no additional child amount of Universal Credit was previously being paid for) would become the second child (for Universal Credit child ‘ordering’ purposes) and the additional child amount of Universal Credit would then be paid for that child.

The only thing you will need to do is report a change in September under "Children and other people who live with you". You should remove the eldest as a Child and add them back onto the claim as other people who live with you as they are now no longer considered a child. You should report this change on your account at the date the child benefit officially stops for this child, which I think is around beginning of September (do not try to report the change before the child benefit ends in September)
You shouldn't need to contact them, it should all just happen automatically based on what you have told the system (above). The system should detect that the eldest child is no longer eligible and automatically roll over to paying for the two oldest children who are eligible as @poppy12345 stated above.
I would only bother to contact them if you do not receive payment for two children (i.e, something has gone wrong).
