Not in my opinion, my children are over the stairs and that's in the house. The office is on the side of the house.Robin9 said:Is this position any worse than meters under the stairs ?0 -
I've just messaged the neighbours to find out. ThanksQrizB said:I can understand why they want to move them.Ideally you'd have moved the meters when you had the garage converted.do your neighbours also have their gas meters in their garage? Have they received the same letter?0 -

There are quite a few threads about gas meter and garage conversion on the below forum. From what I see integrating an existing meter into your property seems to be not legal.

On the other hand to have a gas meter in the house is ok, seems just not when it was originally outside.0 -
That does seem to be the aspect they are trying to deal with, removing the potential for any leak on the distribution side of the meter to result in gas inside a property, nothing to do with access to read the meter...jefaz07 said:

Hi all,
UPDATE - They are coming out to fit an external meter as they say the gas cut-off needs to be accessible and not 'indoors'.
There is no cost to me as the previous owners built a porch over the gas pipe (apparently).
Help someone finds this useful and thank you to those who offered advice.
Cheers

We were looking at buying a house about 5 years ago where the gas meter which had previously be external was now inside the sunroom. We knew this was a safety issue and investigated costs at that time and it was well over £1000 to have the meter and pipework sorted. We didn't buy for other reasons.
