I didn't sign up to it and probably should have. I bought my used A4 in 2012 when the car was 18 months old, and liked it until the software fix. Since then I have lost performance, have a lower mpg, and doesn't seem such a smooth a ride.
The local dealership also didn't install the software update correctly and after every so often the engine management light would come on for a DPF fault.
Ended up taking it to an independent VW specialist who solved the software fault, but the car has never been the same car as I bought since the software update was installed0
