Will I lose Virginmedia emails if I cancel the contract

I have been with virgin media ever since I first got on line and I have broadband and TV with them and it is now ridiculously expensive. The only reason i have stayed with them is that I am frightened of losing my email address, which I know will happen if I cancel the contract. I have worked out that I can start giving people notice of a different email address well in advance of stopping the contract. But can someone please let me know if I will still have access to all the emails now stored on my computer - or will these somehow be wiped too

It depends on how you are accessing them and how much really is on your computer.
Assuming you are using IMAP then when your account is closed your access will be revoked and so your mail client will be unable to connect to the server. As such whatever you have downloaded will stay downloaded but, for example, your client has downloaded the text of a message but not the 5mb PDF that's attached you obv will be able to read the message but not open the attachment.
If you are using POP3 then everything will be downloaded to the computer anyway.0 -
You could get one or more Gmail (yahoo etc) e-mail addresses and just forward your old emails to it while you still have access if need be0

It is a real pain and you might have years of updating email addresses with various online accounts but it's worth it in the long run. Using an ISP's email service is always a liability.0

"liability" is the wrong word I would say. Its more of a falsehood.Yes its nice you get an email address with the provider but of course if you up sticks and go, you can't take it with you.Set up a Gmail/Yahoo/Outlook.com email address and pull in your emails now.0
