Cancelled Bid

neverlikedpeas said:I had a buyer pay £90 for a buy it now today and then asked to cancel the order 3 hours later.Thankfully I hadn't posted the item but I had wrapped it and will be down a pound on the packaging that is now in the dustbin.
I'm getting more and more of these.
People place an offer - I accept, then they say it was an accident and they want to cancel.
I asked one buyer how placing an offer was an accident.
He said his 'finger slipped'!!!
Fair enough, it's better then dealing with a return, but not only does it ruin an auction, it costs me the non-refundable portion of fee's, and since I only list on the discounted listing days, it also means I can't relist until I wait for the next discounted promotion! Very annoying!
I also have more buyers returning items as damaged or faulty just so that they can return it for free and I pay all shipping to and from them.
When I receive the item back it's in used condition and works perfectly fine!!!!

Have you reported that seller to eBay? Because they're not supposed to do any dodgy dealings. If they want a particular price, they should put the item for sale for that price. Please do report them or they'll carry on doing this.Pollycat said:Thanks.
There are no bids as yet.
There is nothing mentioned about 'reserve not met' on the listing.
I've seen that before on listings but wondered if it only showed if someone had placed a bid.
I hope they don't manage to sell the item. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. When I first started using eBay - rarely do now as there are not half as many bargains as there used to be - once a bid was made it couldn't be cancelled. It was a terrifying time waiting to see if your bid had been accepted, and very worrying if you decided you didn't want the item. I guess a refund request could still have been made but even so, it did seem very strict at the time. Seems like eBay has relaxed that rule but it's not fair to sellers.rose_sparky said:Why do eBay allow bids to be cancelled?
If I bid on something in an auction room I would not be able to say ‘oh cancel that, I’ve changed my mind’.

There have been no noticeable changes in the bidding rules, buyers have always had the right to withdraw a bid with only certain options available and never had to wait for a seller to ‘accept’ a bid.MalMonroe said:

The same options are there to remove a bid as there always was, bids are supposed to only be withdrawn for certain reasons, such as bid wrong amount, or such like and that has always been abused. There has always been the right to report a buyer for removing a bid as well for misusing the cancellation process and that hasn’t changed.
I suspect the only thing that has changed is that eBay have now got variations of the seller and buyer dashboard that make it easier to see options. At one point to see the help Info on cancelling bids you would have needed to go and search for it using a rather badly formatted help system, now that ‘help’ is easier to navigate from a dashboard it is easier to find.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Update:Pollycat said:How do people feel about a seller who lists an item on an auction/best offer basis for £x .
I offer the opening bid price plus half as much again.
My offer is rejected on the basis the seller wants 5 X the opening bid.
The seller said they thought they'd put a reserve on.Someone bids the starting bid price, I bid twice the opening bid (higher than my offer) and win the auction.
I pay within 30 minutes of the end of the auction.
The seller says they are refunding my payment as the final amount wasn't as much as they wanted. So I've bid in good faith, paid in good faith but it will take up to 3 days to get my money back.
I told the seller this and said they had the opportunity to end the listing after they'd rejected my offer.
I'm not best pleased. Would anyone else feel the same way?
The item is listed again with a starting bid of 1.5 times the original listing.
I don't know if there is a reserve on the listing. Is there a way to find out?
Thanks
I did report the seller after they cancelled the first sale and refunded me.
I placed a bid at the starting price on the new listing 5 minutes before the end of the auction.
No reserve set.
I bid a higher amount again just before the end and was the only bidder.
So, once again, I've won this item fairly in accordance with eBay rules.
I held off paying (I usually pay immediately) for a couple of hours.
Sure enough, the seller cancels the sale.
I'm furious. 🤬
I have reported again to eBay and told them I want the item I've bid for twice and won twice because as a buyer, if I place a bid, I'm committed to buy and the same rules should apply to sellers.
I can accept that the seller forgot to put a reserve price on the first listing. But not twice.4 -
Seller didnt bother with a reserve price as that costs extra!
If the seller cancels the sale does that also remove your ability to leave feedback?2 -
It isn't easy but it is still possible to leave feedback. personally as long as it didn't impact on OPs money situation I would keep paying - it might only cost seller 30p a time but it might make them think about it.IftiBashir said:Seller didnt bother with a reserve price as that costs extra!

I don't think the seller would be concerned about the cost of putting a reserve on.
Having the money tied up for a couple of days isn't an issue for me but it's the principle.
Sloppy listing.
I'm still angry.
I'll definitely do negative feedback if I get the chance. I'm on my mobile (abroad) and am not as used to it as on my laptop.
If the item is relisted, I'll see it as it's one of my searches that I check regularly.
I would probably report it if it doesn't have a reserve on.
Unless that would goagainst me.

Report the 2 you bid on and we’re cancelled , if seller relists then bid again and report him again if he cancelsPollycat said:I don't think the seller would be concerned about the cost of putting a reserve on.

I've reported both listings.
I think they'll probably have blocked me from bidding for the 3rd time.
I think the seller is deluded about the 2nd hand price.
Apparently it was bought new in a capital city (not London) and I suspect they paid way over the odds (based on my research).
