Help, moved house and have no energy supplier
Hi,
Recently moved house about a month ago and am having trouble setting up my energy,
Large old house, no gas and two electricity meters.Told both meters where with scottish power by previous owner,
Attempt 1. Rang scottish power, they said that one of the meters was there's and we went though account setup etc, unhappy with me goin on standard / capped rate but gave in eventually. Stated the second meter was with e-on and I could either call their new customer line to move it over or stay with e-on. I called their new customer line but gave up after they refused to put me on standard \ capped rate - just told me to call their customer service line which went into indefinite loop :-( .
So then spent some weeks talking with e-on who then figured out neither of the meters where with then, stating scottish power. I'd heard nothing from scottish power (no welcome emails or letters) so thought I would give them a call. They said they had no record of me as a customer and I would need to ring the moving home team :-(
Attempt 2. Contacted 'SP energy networks' with the serial numbers and asked them to confirm the suppliers for both. They responded with Scottish power for both. I then rang Scottish powers moving home line, they went through the details but this have decided that both meters are with Scottish power commercial and I need to ring the commercial team. Suspect that commercial team won't apply energy cap and will cost me a lot more so gave up again. Don't know if i'm being fobbed off or they genuinely are with scottish power commercial.
Little concerned that i'm racking up massive bills with unknow companies or worse we'll get cut off.
What are my options here?
Thanks in advance,
Ash

The bill you will be racking up will be just about the same whatever company you are providing you are on the SVT.
You need to escalate this beyond Customer Services. Sounds like you are on the old heating tariff (ie not E7)Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Hi,why would house be on commercial tariff, was it previously an hotel or restaurant?0

Thanks,
Robin, my concern is that if its genuinely on a commercial it won't be SVT (think that only applies to residential)
Fugal, its purely residential. No idea why it would have been on comercial, as they seem to be doing everything possible to avoid taking me on a SVT rate I do wonder if they are just trying it on,
Can I sign up with anyone else? Can I backdate this to move in day?1 -

All that said, you really need to determine whether you had what used to be called a complex metering system. Not all suppliers support these types of meters. For exampleTotal Heating, Total Control (THTC) meters
THTC meters are only used in certain parts of Scotland. They’re good if you use electricity to heat your home and water, and are at home most of the day.
Electricity for your heating and hot water records on one meter and the rest on a different meter. You'll get between five and twelve hours a day of heating from your storage heaters.

Thanks Dolor,
Unfortunately, I don't think i'm registered as a Scottish power customer. We did go through the signup process on one meter but they seem to have lost any record of this.
Starting to get the impression that if it's genuinely on commercial then we are scr$^d - does anyone know how we would move from commercial to residential? Does anyone know we can validate this beyond taking Scottish powers word for it?
Don't think we are THTC, we are in wales, heating is oil\logs and the separate meters run different areas of the house,
Thanks,

Once SP have sorted you, make a formal written complaint - don't bother with customer services.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

If it is really commercial this will take some work to be changed and the change needs to be done by your current supplier to my knowledge.
Was the property used commercially? What was in the information supplied by the seller?

Continue to make your usually monthly meter readings yourself and keep notes - personally I would also take photographs. work out what your bills should be costing you and stick that amount into a savings account ringfenced to pay the bills when they do finally arrive.
If it were me, I would also send a letter (an actual one, in the post!) to SP notifying them of the fact that you live at the property, the date you moved in, the opening meter reads, and a note of the day and time you originally called to give them your details. Last owners where here for 60 years - since childhood. Was family home, no know commercial activity. I'll try and get in contact with them and ask if they where on a commercial deal (they do own a business in the town)0
