Thinking about local shops and services, what can £1 get you in your town?
A pastry, or a bag of them? A fairground ride? An hour's parking? A quarter of a beer? A favour? A secret? Perhaps not much at all?
Let us know.

Well BC (before Covid) it would get a grandchild a coir mat, and as many gallops up the stairs to the top of a huge uppy downy (technical term) slide as they had puff for. Grandmas are not allowed, they are required to sit at the bottom, cheer, and work out the CPS. That's Cost Per Slide. Sadly the aforementioned grandchildren are now too cool for such fun, so I don't know if it's still a bargain.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards. Love these.
It's been discussed on the Forum before, but former MSE Becky wrote a blog on the best £1 you ever spent.0 -

In one charity shop it'll get you 10 DVD's or 10 CD's or a mix of both, in another charity shop it'll get you 25% of a CD.1

Depending on the charity shop & the "popularity" of the book between 5 & 1/5th of a book, a good rummage through assorted costume jewellery, a small new-to-you soft toy, a riffle through the sale rail of clothes (and they've had curtains on there before now), but the market will see you with six of their cheaper buttons (not the sort you press, the ones you sew), or a small bag of sweeties, or a good bone "for the dog" (makes a smashing stock), or a pensioners assortment of veg, and a lot of cheerful conversation.... If you're in a rush, you'll still get something but nowhere near as much fun.0

Where I live you can have 100 goes on the penny slots or 50 on the tuppence ones. From the local charity shop 2 books to read on the beach or if the offer is on 6 choc ices.0
