4 1/2 hour flight delay from Salou

Hi everyone my first post. Yesterday 28th June 2022 my partner and I were 4 1/2 late leaving Salou with TUI, the reason we were given for delay was the initial flight coming over from Doncaster was heavily delayed due to a power cut at the airport. When the airplane arrived at Salou they did turn it around quite quick. Looking on MSE to claim it has to be the flight companies fault but my argument would be couldn’t they send a different plane over from a different airport to collect us? All feedback welcome please.

There definitely was a power cut which prevented all 4 TUI departures from leaving Doncaster on time. That suggests it was entirely outside the control of TUI and no compensation will be payable. It isn't a case of finding another plane, the plane was sitting at Doncaster and would have to fly the passengers out in any event,   there was no alternative option. There is no reason to fly out an empty plane to pick you up and then have the original flight fly back empty. That simply isn't the way life in the travel industry works.

Agree with Alan that a power cut at the airport would fall outside of TUI's control.

Airlines don't have loads of spare aircraft sitting round to cover delayed flights. Whilst they may have one or two for contingency, as Alan said TUI have 4 aircraft based at Doncaster, so that would mean 4 replacement aircraft and that's assuming there's no problems elsewhere. Also the "travel chaos" in 2022 is well documented so even standby aircraft may not be available.
