Choosing new internal doors

Funnily enough I considered the Buster & Punch handles. I really like their light switches too, they’re a thing of beauty but given the amount of switches and sockets we’d need I just couldn’t justify the cost.Doozergirl said:Gavin83 said:
I couldn't agree more. We've got those flimsy hollow core doors in our house at the moment and they're terrible. We'll certainly be replacing them soon with something more substantial.Doozergirl said:I went for fancy handles in our house and just have painted fire door blanks - fire doors because they're a decent weight. They're painted black so that's statement enough.Don't scrimp on the weight of the doors. Nothing worse than a flimsy moulded developer door that just flaps about. In period houses I'm insistent on doors that match the correct period. I hate modern and wrong period doors in period houses.
Could I be nosey and ask how much you spent on your door handles? There seems to be a huge range available at vastly different prices and me and the wife seem to have different opinions on what's reasonable to spend!£60 for the handles themselves.I wanted these:

Found these from a respected brand:

I buy quite a lot of ironmongery and Carlisle Brass is a good brand. I'm more than happy.Gavin83 said:

How do you rate the set you bought?Word of warning with Lusso Stone. If something isn't in stock it can take an age to arrive. On Friday I took delivery of some missing bathroom items ordered in *February*. The missing waste cover for a shower tray isn't coming until August! Nothing you can do when everything matches. You just have to wait.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I definitely don't want those, or anything remotely "cottagey". My house is a 60s semi, with an open plan living area, hall, kitchen and loo downstairs, three double bedrooms, bathroom and airing cupboard upstairs. Nine doors in all, including two original fully glazed doors downstairs. The other downstairs doors are cheap painted pine replacements, quite badly warped. Upstairs I have flush oak veneer replacements for the original horrors, two are damaged from when our sons were teenagers thirty plus years ago. They all need replacing.J_B said:I thought every house nowadays had Howdens Dordogne Oak!
I'm after mid range robust doors. Any suggestions? Is there a preferred manufacturer?1 -
Not sure if it will work for you, but I got all my doors from Wayfair of all places! Handles from Howdens.Marmaduke123 said:

Thanks for this. Wayfair seem to have the same doors as all the other suppliers, but it's yet another place to price check when I've decided what I want.kdotdotdotdot said:

Have a look at XL joinery, they have a selection of styles.Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'0

The Howden Dordoyne Oak or similar from other suppliers are popular for a reason. They are described as cottagey but for me cottage says four panel or braced tongue and groove with latches. There does not seem to be a huge choice out there an alternative would be bog standard flush doors painted in colour of choice.0

And how long does it take you to locate the handle, on average...
