Are texts to 2040 free?

Hello,

I would like to turn off all marketing texts for EE. At the bottom of each text they send me it says "Text STOP to 2040 to opt out from all text message marketing". Every time I go to text 2040 a message appears on my phone screen saying that it may cause charges to my account. Does anyone know whether sending a text to 2040 will cost me? If so, is there a way of turning off marketing text messages for free. I have a pay as you go phone with no packs or add-ons or anything as I only ever use this phone for multi-factor authentication so that I can get into my online banking.

    It won’t cost you.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
