New Boiler & heating system update quote

We're in need of updating our heating system, replacing the current 20+ year old boiler, removing a hot water storage tank capping off etc and replacing with modern, efficient combi boiler and new control system (Hive).

I've been quoted £4348.82 +VAT for the following

It seems reasonable plus as I will also get a 10 yr warranty by getting the flush etc, saving on Boiler cover, rather than the standard 2 year if you don't get it.

My issue is this - I asked for a breakdown of the cost to see how the total cost was arrived & was told they couldn't do it. This was an alarm bell for me, as it seems like they have something to hide.

Am I being paranoid ? Am I being ripped ?

My last boiler/flue/controller and chems was £1200 inc vat. It was a Baxi combi.

It's common for it not to be broken down. Why should it be? At the end of the day the end price is what is of relevance to you. Does it really matter how it was arrived at?

I used Boxt for my last boiler. They give very quick fixed quotes online, might be worth getting a quick price from their website to see how they compare as a good guide.

Where are you? I think that’s expensive. The materials on that job are about £1700. Conversions are more work but not £3500 worth.

That being said, I don’t give breakdowns. I can if you pay for the time.
I don’t believe anyone goes into a supermarket or restaurant and asks for a breakdown of their costs of how they arrived at their price.

Our son had his bolier repalce last year its in the loft/storage area.
Quotes varied for same boiler between 7k and 2.5k - he went for the 2.5k Valaint with i think 7 years warranty - ok since
The materials we estimated were about 1700/1800 - so 6/700 for days work and that was the main man and one h

You'll only get/keep up the 10 year warranty if you have an annual service - are they pricing 10 years worth of services into the quote?

Well I believed some of the elements were optional so I wanted to decide if it was value for money. That being said, my real problem is I don't anything to compare it to.

I am in the central belt of Scotland. This what I trying to get to really. I don't need to know all the "black magic" of the quote, just want broad idea how the elements affect the overall price. Some of this list is optional, like the flush and magnetic filter system.

I think so. I'm sure he said the service was included in the price. Also the 10 yrs warranty was provisional on getting the flush and magnetic filter, otherwise it was 2 years,
