What surprised me about the story below was that BYD are claiming 46% efficiency from the ICE engine in this PHEV.

BYD’s New PHEV Models Can Travel Over 1,300 Miles Without Stopping

The new 1.5-liter engine at the heart of the new plug-in hybrid powertrain has a thermal efficiency of 46.06%, which BYD says makes it the most thermally efficient combustion engine of any production car. It features plenty of trick tech to achieve this efficiency, including what the company describes as intelligent combustion, variable lubrication, and split cooling systems.

Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)

Does this also run technology similar to the PHEV Ioniq? I'd suggest that would be the way forward.

We've registered UK/EU/UA trademarks recently for what we intend to be an effective Private Hire operation serving travel agencies (so long average journies, with a lot of high speed driving), and still can't see the benefit to PHEV over EV. MG5 and Stellantis for 9 seaters are currently coming out ahead in that one.

We would consider it, but 1300mi with 70mi electric range doesn't seem worth it.

Repairing An EV Is 30% More Expensive On Average Than An ICE Vehicle. Here’s Why

The biggest reason for the repair cost disparity comes down to the number of mechanical labor hours. According to Mitchell, the average number of hours that pop up on the repair estimates for EVs is 3.04, while ICE vehicles have an average of 1.66 hours. That’s almost double, and with the average mechanical labor rate for the U.S. above $100 per hour, it quickly adds up.

The insurance analytics firm mentioned in its report that the extra EV labor hours are likely due to the management of the high-voltage battery, which sometimes needs to be de-energized and removed from the vehicle before doing any collision repairs.

Analysis finds 100,000 electric cars stockpiled across Germany

Automotive researcher Werner Olle has discovered that around 100,000 electric cars are temporarily parked in car parks near factories, dealerships or ports across Germany. According to Olle, this applies to vehicles from German manufacturers as well as imports. 2023 saw a record number of unsold vehicles.

Did they check how many ICE vehicles are stockpiled?

2023 saw a record number of unsold vehicles.

Is that a natural outcome of increasing EV volumes?

    Consider my really simple example.

EV's target to sell 100 cars per month.
The year begins with 20 cars in stock (one week supply) "stockpiled"
By the end of the year, sales per month have crept up to 140 cars per month.
The year ends with 25 cars in stock (less than one week supply) "record stockpiles"

How large is the stockpile compared to a natural working stock volume?

Who knows, but one would have thought CleanTechnica would have mentioned it when they did this report if there was also a problem with ICE cars.

    Does it really matter ?

This thread is supposed to be about the new kid on the block (EV) and posting comments knocking ICE cars won't help to achieve the results the EV community wanted and  expected

It would be sad to say it's a failure but in my opinion  that seems like  the reality

It does matter in so far as the "100k EVs stockpiled" is a meaningless element of data unless set in context.

A reference to total EV sales per period and how long (in time) that stockpile represents is one way of contextualising that headline data.

The data can be further contextualised by comparison with how long the stock holding of similar product groups would be.  ICE cars seems to be the most obvious similar product group.
