It's an interesting question. The original poster is a customer of Eon next (trading as Sainsbury's Energy). Are they a new customer of they "move" to being a customer of Eon next (trading as Eon Next)? I'd wager not as the contract states that Sainsbury's Energy can use the balance from any other Eon Next account you may have if you owe them money...so to me that means there is only one account whether you are with Sainsbury's Energy or Eon Next

OP did write that he tried to switch, but

I would need to switch to Eon Next (Eon is soon to be phased out), however as they are not accepting new customers, there was nothing they could do for me.

Yes, and his question was as he is already a customer of Eon next (which by his contract it looks like he is) why can be not get eon next tariffs

Because they don't offer it to their customers who are on Sainsbury Energy. Nobody forces them to offer the same tariffs to all customers. Same as Sainsbury Energy customer got offered tariffs that were not available to Eon customers.

Nobody cared about it when there was a wide open market of cheap energy deals, it is only now that is a problem.

EDF is offering other customers much better deals than I can find in my account, not much I can do about. Joke is that I am anyway on fixed tariff since February with much better rates.

Then that's the correct answer, not it's a different company, because it's not.

Try going into your local Argos and asking for a packet of pork pies.  Argos and Sainsbury's are the same company, so why should it matter which shop you go into?
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Except that's a totally different structure to what we are taking about here.

I go back to what I said earlier. E.on Next appears to be marketing energy that it supplies to some customers under a Licence deal with Sainsbury’s. There will be terms and conditions attached to the Licence: no doubt, Sainsbury’s will be paid for every customer that E.oN Next supplies under the Sainsbury’s brand. I cannot see that there is any legal obligation for E.oN Next to offer its ‘ E.oN Next’ marketed tariffs to customers aligned to Sainsbury’s Energy.

Dolor, you are correct. There is no obligation for anyone to offer anything to anyone else. I was just trying to correct the incorrect assertion made by others that eon next and Sainsbury's energy are 2 different companies when they are absolutely, 100% the same company. Neither are they 2 companies with the same owner, they are the same company.

Anyway, they can offer what they like to who they like so none of this really helps :-)

Indeed, it was the other way around last year. Sainsbury's had better deals than EON Next, despite being the exact same company. It was easier then though as they were not exclusive fixes.
