You can do a easy test.

During the E10 hours later today switch the heat pump on. Than switch everything off in the consumer box one by one and check if the heat pump stops, and what breaker disconnects it.

One other thing on the side? Do you have both an electric shower and an immersion heater? Is the immersion heater always on during E10 hours?

Sorry, I can do a few photos, but I can't get into doing tests. Sorry again that I don't know how it's all set up. All I know is that when they installed the Ecodan, they'd asked if I wanted water heating on and I'd said no, as only use a few utensils and they'd said the shower will still produce warm water even with water setting off.

Don't do this with an Ecodan, twice during powercuts ours has lost connection to the outside unit and needed a couple of resets and of you don't know what you are doing just adds hassle.

I never like to cut the power to something when it's doing its thing. Standby is a lot better.

Thanks @Mstty :-) @pochase maybe didn't know that could be risky, but much appreciate confirmation that best not try out tests; not able to do it anyway, and certainly sounds troublesome ... sorry you had these problems.

If the theory that it is connected directly to a switched E10 circuit is correct, there is a power cut three times a day anyway. Each time one of the three E10 windows ends.

And @meadowgrass said the Ecodan will not work outside the E10 windows.

Surely the OP would have noticed a blank operating panel or panel with errors by now if this was the case for 14 hours of the day?

What other reason do you know that it does not work outside of E10 hours?

I think you have a heat pump, can you think of anything else why he has to use a radiator outside of E10 hours because the heat pump does not work?

The photos are to see if it looks like the Ecodan is only set up to provide heat for 10 hours, as it was colder this year and noticed much more the gaps in heating (had to use oil-filled from the end of 2021, and have only just last week been able to turn that off). The only time I notice the panel is when taking the two numbers for monthly readings (on dual-rate non-smart meter).  EDIT: have since realised are referencing the panel in the cupboard beside the boiler cupboard, where can turn entire system on/off, or water on/off etc ... turned system off the other day, for first time in at least 9 months, so, yes, the system had been on all the time but only 10 hours of heat.
[Just to add that I'm female].

During the time the Ecodan is not working, is the display off as mentioned earlier?

I've never seen the meter screen be off when doing readings at different times in the day. That's the only display I use.

We are not talking about the meter, we are talking about the display on your Ecodan heat pump.
