Ebay - Get text by phone to continue but the catch is you are "agreeing to" getting BS messages and

I tried to login to my acount and did not bother and thought I'd do it some other day.
Today I thought I'd get it done with but then noted the bs message.
Why should I receive their crap with no option to opt-out.
My accout is 15 years old if not older and have verified several times before years ago.
Any ideas please?

*By selecting this method, you agree to receive texts or pre-recorded messages to this number. Mobile charges may apply.’. I’ve only ever got the single text with the code I need to sign in though, never anything else.

This is the new 2FA security , you cannot opt out. You either accept the terms and close your account.

You’ll find everyone will be doing this, I already have to do it with Amazon and the Co Op bank have said they will be launching it in a few weeks. Incidentally a lot of the random messages and seller updates we have been getting for the past year have been warning about this so we have a chance to ensure our mobile numbers and emails are correct.

I went to check whether my phone number is on the account, after reading a fair few people having problems, and mine is.  I must have had a verification code when I first put it on the account but otherwise have never had a single text message from eBay.

Thank you for that. I activated my account as per new rules and ATM, no texts, rubbish messages etc, etc.

I had omitted to change my number on ebay but went on their webchat to sort it out and it was changed within 24 hours, I was was quite surprised as I suspected they would be difficult but no. I even got on webchat within a minute but it was 8am. They did say a lot of people were having trouble. as they hadnt updated their number.

Can I ask a related question on your thread !

Do people have sold item notifications activated on ones ph app or does that also mean you get a load of other rubbish ebay tx messages sent that you need to delete every day ?

I cant remember how it works but think I opted out so I only know Ive sold a item when I check emails .

How do others monitor sold items .ie set up app notifications
I dont sell much so sales are few and far between .

I get sold messages and I also get ones offering me things like 20% off certain goods or sellers  I also get sent messages that other users send me, so questions or updates if I have bought something . I certainly never get messages that cause me any concern or any effort in deleting. I am more than happy to receive these messages, I always worry I might miss a case being opened, or a minor query that is easily dealt with but could turn nasty if ignored.

I like my sold messages as they come with a ‘Ca Ching ‘ (I don’t know how I set that up) . Many a time I’ve been at an auction or in a charity shop and the person near me gets a ‘ca ching’ and I know they are selling on eBay 😀

I’ve never been charged for a message.
