Jet2 Cancelled flight but not offered a FULL refund of monies paid

Disappointingly, a Jet2 flight that was booked many months ago has just been cancelled by Jet2. The flight for 5 was purchased through the Jet2 website and as part of the online purchase, Jet2 travel insurance was also purchased.
When Jet2 cancelled the flight they provided a refund within a few days, however, the amount refunded does not match the amount paid and is £40 short. It would appear this £40 is the cost of the single trip travel insurance that was purchased.
Is this reasonable? Shouldn't Jet2 be refunding the FULL purchase amount, including the cost of the travel insurance?
I've read through the Jet2 policy but nothing is mentioned about the situation where the airline cancels the insurance. This seems to be the case for most travel policies, so is this a money spinner for insurance companies i.e. they keep the insurance premiums and don't need to pay out when the airline cancels a flight?
Unfortunately, I haven't had any responses to emails and I've been unable to get through to Jet2 to talk to someone about this.

This would be up to Jet2 or their underwriters. I doubt anyone on here could advise. If you had taken our separate insurance I doubt you would get a refund - probably be given the option to move the dates/country on the insurance - but its down to each individual insurer to decide.
Who are your underwriters - have you tried contacting them?FTB - April 20200 -
Insurance premiums are not usually refunded as the insurer is at risk from the day you buy it. 50% of claims arise from people cancelling the holiday before travel due to illness, death or jury service. It may be a good idea to go straight to the insurer or broker that issued the policy rather than the airline and ask politely in view of the cancellation can you have a partial refund or voucher for future use1

I agree with what you are saying, but the point here is that Jet2 are selling this travel insurance as "their" travelling insurance, despite it being underwritten by another company. I assume therefore they get commission for each policy they sell, so for them to be able to simply cancel a flight without refunding "their" policy seems wrong to me as they will be benefiting from the cancellation, while their customers lose out.0

As Alan_Bowen suggests, perhaps a gentle approach to the travel insurance company to see if they will make a concessionary gesture.0
